CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE
NAMIBIA UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Prof. Attlee M. Gamundani
It is with great honour and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the Cybersecurity4D 2025 Conference, scheduled to take place from 18 to 22 August 2025 in Gqeberha. Building on the remarkable success of last year’s virtual event, we are poised to delve deeper into the complexities and opportunities that define the future of cybersecurity in Africa.
The theme of this year’s conference, “Proactive Resilience: Securing AI and IoT Ecosystems through Integrated Cybersecurity Strategies,” is particularly timely. As our reliance on interconnected systems grows, the need to secure our digital ecosystems becomes ever more critical. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) holds immense potential for driving innovation and development across the continent. However, these advancements also present new security challenges that demand sophisticated, adaptive, and forward-thinking strategies.
Cybersecurity4D stands apart in its holistic approach, recognising that cybersecurity is not merely a technical issue but a multidimensional challenge. Our focus on the Digital, Diverse, Developmental, and Dynamic dimensions underscores our commitment to not only protecting digital assets but also fostering inclusivity, nurturing emerging talent, and staying ahead of the evolving threat landscape. These pillars are foundational as we work towards building a secure and resilient digital future for Africa.
As a scholar and practitioner deeply involved in AI, IoT, and cybersecurity, I have witnessed the transformative potential these technologies can unlock when secured and ethically implemented. The Cybersecurity4D 2025 Conference offers a unique platform for thought leaders, industry experts, academia, government, and civil society to converge, share insights, and collaborate on innovative solutions. Together, we will contribute to the development of robust cybersecurity frameworks tailored to the African context.
Given the overwhelming interest demonstrated during the Cybersecurity4D 2024 Virtual Conference, I strongly encourage all stakeholders—whether you represent academia, government, industry, or non-governmental organisations—to lock in your commitment at the earliest opportunity. The demand for participation is exceptionally high, and we anticipate this year’s event will be oversubscribed. By securing your involvement now, you not only guarantee your place at this pivotal event but also position your organisation at the forefront of Africa’s cybersecurity dialogue.
This conference is more than just a gathering; it is a call to action. It is a call for us to think beyond traditional paradigms, challenge existing norms, and embrace the full spectrum of possibilities that emerging technologies offer. As chairperson, I am dedicated to ensuring that Cybersecurity4D 2025 not only addresses the technical aspects of cybersecurity but also underscores the social, economic, and ethical implications tied to these advancements.
In addition, I wish to extend a special invitation to potential sponsors, community partners, and universities. Your support and collaboration are vital in making this conference a success and in driving the meaningful change that will shape the future of cybersecurity in Africa. By participating, you will have the opportunity to connect with key decision-makers, influence the development of cybersecurity policies, and gain visibility in one of the most critical sectors of our time.
I also call upon government and non-governmental institutions to join us in this endeavour. Your role is crucial in creating a secure, inclusive, and resilient digital environment that supports sustainable development and innovation across the continent.
I urge you to engage fully with the sessions, workshops, and discussions that will take place over the course of this event. Your active participation is key to shaping the future of cybersecurity in Africa. Together, we can build a digital environment that is secure, inclusive, and resilient—one that drives innovation and sustainable development for all.
Thank you for your commitment to Cybersecurity4D 2025. I look forward to the groundbreaking ideas and collaborative efforts that will emerge from this conference.
Sincerely,
Prof. Attlee M. Gamundani
